The art of filigree boasts a noble and ancient tradition. The first news of filigree dates way back in history making its first appearance during the times of Troy, Mesopotamia and Egypt between 2500-2000 B.C. This peculiar processing, more appropriately known as "WIRE WORKS" consists of the interlacement of thin wires of gold or silver of high purity melted at the points of contact with invisible soldering of the same metal. A particular, accurate and careful processing which will, with patient artistic ability and imagination, produce precious objects of elevated expressiveness and value.
Numerous are the pieces of filigree found throughout the centuries, among the precious golden jewelry findings of Etruscan art since the 8th century B.C. and even more during the Greek period. This technique, that originates from the ancient Far East, has been practiced also from the Venetian gold masters and the Genoeses. In the years between 1050-1100 A.D. it appeared also in Sardinia, after the Arabic invasions.
The famous Venetian gold masters had developed and improved this ancient art creating new techniques of production. Thanks to the help of a considerable number of local artisans which, through the teaching of father to son, have preserved this art unaffected in a process that is handmade to this day. The company Mingardi Danilo has since 1976 customized and used the ancient techniques preserving the traditions, appreciating the peculiar and noble processing of filigree. Consequently it has created its own collection with a huge assortment of models including bracelets, necklaces, earrings, brooches, pendants and decorations.
